Obsessive Compulsive Order
"Ken Nicol’s work is based on an intentional and intellectual obsession with observation and collection. His work is meticulous, structured, humble, and mesmerizing, taking one back to the days of the typewriter, the hand wound clock, and excellent penmanship. This respect for analog and old-school practices is juxtaposed against an art practice that is smart, humourous, methodical, and elegant. A practice that is deeply rooted in conceptualism. Nicol’s obsession with repetition results in work that demands our contemplation and attention forcing us to take renewed notice in the order and structure that surrounds us.
Nicol is a Toronto-based interdisciplinary artist who studied at the Ontario College of Art and at the Sheridan College, Toronto. His work has been exhibited in Miami, Chicago, New York, Winnipeg, and Toronto." Gallery Stratford
